A Dramatic Finale:

Inside Antechamber by Erica Myat

In a warehouse space transformed into something closer to theatre than runway, Erica Myat presented Antechamber, a debut that unfolded like a carefully constructed performance. Part installation, part fashion show, the presentation built its tension slowly before culminating in a striking final image: a fragile chamber made of sugar glass enclosing the last look, like a figure frozen within a cave of crystal.

It was a moment that reframed the entire collection. What had appeared throughout the show as fragility, protection and exposure suddenly felt deliberate — the garments leading toward a quiet but dramatic revelation.

. . .

The performance progressed through a clear emotional arc. Models moved through the space with restrained intensity, emerging from darkness into moments of exposure. The clothing followed the same trajectory. Early looks carried weight and protection: deep black fabrics, dense textures and silhouettes that wrapped the body like armour. Gradually the garments began to release. Layers thinned, transparency appeared, and delicate constructions revealed the vulnerability beneath.

Craftsmanship was at the centre of Myat’s vision. Lace, ruffles and intricate textile manipulation created garments that felt almost atmospheric. A black lace dress moved through the space like a storm cloud — its ruffled forms evoking smoke drifting across a darkened sky. In another look, airy volumes gathered around the body like suspended fragments of cloud.

At times the garments deliberately revealed the body. Several looks embraced the natural form of the models’ breasts, presenting femininity not as decoration but as strength — fragile yet defiant. The tension between exposure and protection echoed the wider emotional tone of the show.

Within the context of London Fashion Week, Myat’s presentation felt aligned with a new generation of designers who are building worlds through craft, narrative and symbolism. London’s strength has long been its ability to nurture designers who develop their own systems — of cutting, storytelling and material experimentation — rather than following a uniform aesthetic.

For LUMEN, Antechamber naturally belongs within the spirit of Angelomania, the emerging thread we observed this season across designers such as Yuhan Ao, Paul Costelloe, Erdem, Chloé and Givenchy. Across their collections, craftsmanship and emotional storytelling converge — garments carrying both technical mastery and symbolic depth.
In Myat’s case, the symbolism felt particularly poignant. Her work balances dreamlike beauty with quiet provocation. The fragile glass chamber, the smoke-like ruffles, the exposed bodies within protective forms — together they reflected a world that feels increasingly tense and uncertain.

And yet the show also offered something else: an invitation to imagine. In a moment where the world often feels as though it is burning, Myat’s work suggests that fragility can coexist with resilience. Through craft, patience and poetic detail, she constructs garments that hold both vulnerability and strength.
If the next chapter of London fashion is being written by designers capable of building their own visual languages, then Antechamber signals that Erica Myat is a voice to watch — one that understands how clothing can become atmosphere, narrative and emotion all at once.
