'MADE OF DREAMS'
photography SIMRAN KAUR
Horses become living poetry in this high-contrast black-and-white series—details carved from pure white, deep shadow, and subtle greys for depth. Inspired by childhood awe and northern Indian heritage, each image captures restless movement and quiet power. Galloping through cold winds and brief sunlight, these untamed spirits explore belonging, letting go, and the dream of unwavering freedom.
In this ethereal photoshoot, we celebrate the untamed spirit and poetic freedom embodied by
horses. Set against sweeping landscapes of golden meadows and endless skies, each frame captures the raw beauty and grace of these majestic creatures. Horses gallop freely, their manes flowing like rivers of silk, their strength and elegance harmonizing with the rhythm of nature.

In these images, every movement—every flicker of mane or shift of muscle—echoes something deeply personal: the longing for freedom, the tension between belonging and breaking away. This visual meditation on horses invites us to consider not just their wild beauty, but what they awaken within us. For Simran, these photographs are more than an artful study—they are rooted in memories, family, and her own journey of self-discovery.
SIMRAN KAUR : Horses are interesting creatures. Ever since I was kid I was sort of obsessed with them. They were majestic, always looking tall and mighty, I sort of always wanted the attitude and confidence of horse and to be free and run within the flow of life with a direction in mind.
Being Punjabi and particularly from north india, we have a lot of horses and mom’s family owens some horses. Whenever I go to india with my family I always end ups taking care of the horses and also riding them into our fields and streets. I sort of always to also be the damsel in distress but also my own hero who is gonna save her from all the harm of the world, and I knew I could do that and play both roles ever since I was kid.

Horses always seemed free to me. They are like the cold wind the rising sun, a warm body running through the cold breeze of winter. That’s what I tried to showcase with these photos, the abstract scenes invite the viewer to feel the wind while the contrasting harsh tones invite the viewer to feel the juxtaposition between the cold and warmth of the various tones.
Perhaps the freedom the horses hold is the one I always wanted to have. I have been free my entire life yet It feels like there are times where something is holding me back, perhaps is the ties we have with others. Horses run in packs too but we can’t often do the same, like some people are just holding us back. I just often found myself letting go of people’s hands easily while people around me often can’t let go of people around them as easy, perhaps is because I always felt like I don’t belong to one place but I just belong in the world. The idea of just moving out to a new place is not so far away for me especially when you are the kind of person who makes whatever comes from your mouth happen.
People come and go but what stays is you within a space where you can move freely and galop into a tomorrow, a new page of your life book where there are new things in any corners and while some people find it scary to go into the unknown I feel excited and happy to move on without taking a glimpse into the past.
Horses also could symbolise an abstract subject carrying people’s dreams as they carry us, but then it depends on how you drive the horse and where too. They might be made of dreams but they all need a lead, you can’t let the car drive itself you have to take your responsibilities as a driver.
When I think of horses I often think about letting go of feelings and thoughts that might distract you to the end goal of getting to the horizon, but then I remember that feelings a worth feeling no matter how bad or good they are
